Italian to the core: Motepulciano is a dark, rustic wine with significant peppery spice in the aroma and a thick, nearly syrupy mouthfeel. Like Champagne, Montepulciano wines are strictly controlled, coming exclusively from the mountainous Abruzzo region of East-central Italy, and made of at least 85 percent Montepulciano grapes, the rest being Sangiovese. (Confusingly, Montepulciano grapes are rarely grown today near the town of Montepulciano in Tuscany, where the Sangiovese grape is instead dominant.) Learn More
