October 30, 2012—ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, Orlando, Florida's oldest and largest wine and spirits merchant, is opening a new store at 2360 SR 44 in New Smyrna Beach. The store is expected to open the evening of October 29, or morning of October 30, 2012.
The new store is much larger-nearly twice the size of an older store in New Smyrna Beach-and stocks a wider range of wines, spirits, and craft beers. Also among the highlights: a walk in humidor and a wine tasting station stocked with a selection that wine drinkers can "try before they buy." This innovation has proven highly successful, as it allows wine buyers to taste new wines without risk. The new store replaces the much older store on South Dixie Highway, implementing new design features ABC began using in 2009. The design includes bolder earth tones in the company's signature colors on the walls, making it easy for customers to locate wine, spirits, beers, and gourmet items. As well, the store layout has been updated to make navigating the store's departments more intuitive for shoppers.
A virtual tour and video conversation with CEO Charles Bailes, III, is available here.
Recent trends in wine-buying habits prompted an overhaul of the company's 140-plus retail stores. Existing stores are being remodeled and new stores are being built with an eye to creating a comfortable, interesting, exceptional shopping experience, and in particular one that is female-friendly, as wine-buying trends show that increasingly, women are making wine selections for all occasions. "When we went through the design changes," adds Gibson, "it was important to us to create a store women would be comfortable shopping in. Women are an increasingly larger share of our customer base, and it's important to us that they enjoy their experience with us."
A grand opening wine tasting is planned for November 15, 2012.
