Are you a "Blockhead"? Are you passionate about (or even just look forward to) the Block wines?
Block wines are exclusively carried by ABC.
But that's not what makes them special.
What makes them special is this: we work with top wineries to produce wines under the Block label ONLY when they (the wineries) have excess juice from their top wines/vintages. Every Block wine is unique, because the only thing we can guarantee about the label is that when it's gone, it's gone. No guarantee that there'll be another Oakville Cab from the same winery that created the first one; no guarantee that we'll have another Coastal Pinot Noir.
We do guarantee these are wines that you couldn't touch for this price under the original label--they're great wines, and great values.
And since most people who taste one once become a fan for life, I thought we'd let you know there are some new ones in house (the reviews are by Brad Lewis):
Block 214 Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 – Oakville, Napa
The Oakville Cabernet opens with medium ruby color and aromas of black fruits, nutmeg and allspice carrying through a fleshy middle. It’s big-boned with a structure to age and match with any big red meats.
Block 925 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 – Howell Mountain, Napa
Howell Mountain is known for producing small berries with thick skins that give dark, intense wines. The wine shows deep color; aromas of black fruit, chocolate and coffee with a touch of oak; a firm middle and a little tightness now. Age it or let it breathe but this wine is made for red meat.
Block 512 Pinot Noir 2008 – Sonoma Coast
The Sonoma Coast’s cool climate has emerged as one of California’s top areas for Pinot Noir. This lot shows the medium ruby color of the variety with a flowery nose of black cherry, plum and a trace of oak followed by medium body with a spicy character and moderate tannins. The sweet fruit lingers on. This is a top value for Pinot Noir.
Enjoy!
